The Daily Mail’s “Hippy-crite” index lashes out at celebs for flying private while preaching carbon reduction.
This is something that’s bothered me for awhile. I know that people like DiCaprio, Pitt, and Jolie, as well as many corporations, off set travel by restoring rainforest, but they wouldn’t have to if they didn’t burn so much fossil fuel way up there in the delicate parts of the sky. Alternately, they could fly commercial (not great but much better), burn through their money planting trees, and have a positive net impact.
People just don’t fucking get it. Private jet travel is not, I repeat not one the ecological concerns we should be focused on. I don’t have one, and I sure as hell don’t know anyone else who has one either. I do, however know people who drive sub 30 mpg, non hybrid cars, and get their electricity from coal and fossil fuels. And by people, I of course mean the vast, VAST, majority of this country/world. The Private Jet bash is a load of bullshit created by the corporate influenced right wing media to try and personally discredit leaders of the green movement such as Al Gore and, yes, Brad Pitt.(Ex: Two of the most outspoken critics of environmentalist PJ use are Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly. - They wont go more than 100 yards without a private jet.)
People need to pull their heads out of their asses long enough to see that, at the end of the day, air travel is necessary. No one bitches when they order something online and have it next day/express delivered. Guess how that gets too your door so fast from 1,500 miles away. Gasp* Fed Ex or UPS flies it. Are you going to tell me that your new pair of shoes are more important than the work Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are doing in Africa or New Orleans?
Flat out, there is no efficient way to get distant places in this world without air travel. (Save yourself the embarrassment, and don’t say via ship. And high speed electric rail is not a global option.) It would be irresponsible, in a much different nature, for Pitt or Jolie to constantly travel on public airlines. They are maybe the two most famous, and most followed people on the planet. It would be utter chaos every time they tried to go somewhere. It would be a risk to their personal security, and the others in the airport as the mass of people clamoring to see them could easily hide someone with a treacherous agenda. Oh and maybe you should stop and consider how by traveling privately, they are always flying non stop direct one way(This is especially more efficient in the corporate world where groups of people travel together). It is increasingly rare with the current airline problems to travel a considerable distance in only one plane. It just isn’t profitable for them anymore not to constantly make short trips and maximize their cargo carrying potential.(Most revenue taken by airlines anymore comes from “preferred carriers” who offset the loss on low ticket prices and rising fuel costs by paying them to fly their cargo, goods, and mail in the planes pallet carrying underbelly.)
All I am asking for is some perspective. The number of people using private jets aren’t going to ruin the world, because there just aren’t enough of them. However, the number of people who abuse fossil fuels and waste energy in their everyday lives will. That is what Pitt-Jolie are trying to speak out against. They are trying to alert people of the problem, change the way the masses think, and inform them of things everyone can do to help out. Of course the things Pitt and Jolie do in their everyday lives seem small when offset by their jet fuel use, but that is the point. Everything in the green movement revolves around small modifications of your daily live. It is the scale that matters. If everyone makes some small adjustments, we will see the drastic changes. Our Global Climate always has been, and always will be a bigger issue than any one man or woman.
Lets stop worrying about the .0001% of people on this planet who will ever even see the inside of a private jet, and get back to worrying about what the 6.5 billion carbon burners that inhabit this planet should be doing as a group. This type of bullshit propaganda is exactly what heavy carbon consumption/production corporations and anti-global warming groups love to spread, because it distracts people from what really matters… Ironically, they probably brainstormed it on their corporate jet.
- This outburst has nothing to do with my “man crush” on Brad Pitt. -

I find humor in what people hold Holiest. Race, religion, music, sex, politics, and sports are what interest me, and also what I like to discuss and make light of the most. Sensitivity is the wild card of comedy. I believe the biggest laughs come from the humorous acknowledgment, and subsequent release of uncomfortable tension.
My hobbies include taking stock options, being thanked after sex, and having my asshole friends write quotes saying what my hobbies include.
I am not trying to be crass, this is simply who I am. If you get insulted, you probably missed the point.
